Bacon is popular with a lot of people. But you know something isn’t really important until celebrities love it, too. And celebrities love bacon! I’ve waded through a pack of celebrity gossip to find six of our favourite bacon-loving celebrities.
As we reported a few months ago, Katy Perry has said she wants her next album to be about meat and sausages. She also said that on the cover, she’d wear a “bacon bikini.” I have a feeling that she might have been making fun of the sartorial choices of a particular pop star, but even so, I’m willing to hold her to her word. I’m keeping an eye out, Ms Perry, for that bacon bikini, and I will be very upset if I don’t see it.
Catherine Zeta-Jones spends most of her time in Los Angeles, but when she returns to her native Wales, she looks forward to eating something very special: a bacon sandwich. Or as they are known in the United Kingdom, a “bacon butty.” When she returned to Wales earlier this year to open up a children’s hospital, she told a local news outfit, “’There’s nothing like a bacon butty when you come back to Wales.” Suddenly, a country that once seemed incredibly free of interest for me – Wales – seems packed with magical possibilities. Plus, Ryan Giggs is an awesome soccer player.
Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale are in love. This love can be shown in many ways. It can be shown by sharing and giving. It’s displayed when they do things together. It’s about how they show they are thinking about their partners before they think of themselves. But most importantly, love for Gavin and Gwen is about dressing up in a matching bacon and egg costume for Halloween.
The bad news is that we don’t have any pictures of Gavin Rossdale in the bacon costume. He took it off to drape across their baby Kingston so they could hide him from the paparazzi. I have only one thing to say about this: Boo, Mr Rossdale, boo.
I don’t know if Padma Lakshmi – the host of Top Chef and all around sexpot – has ever formally come out to express her love of bacon. But this video of Padma eating a bacon burger is more than enough proof than I need. And ahem, friends: any and all thanks for bringing this beauty into your lives is heartily appreciated.
But the ultimate celebrity bacon fan is … Elvis. Okay, I know, I know. He’s not alive and he hasn’t been alive for years. But Elvis’s love for bacon burned hotter than a thousand suns. It is a love that us mere mortals can merely aspire to.
He’s most well-known for his love of sandwiches consisting of bananas, peanut butter and bacon – these sandwiches have even been renamed as “The Elvis” in his honour. But another favourite of his was even more magnificently bacon-y. It is called the Fool’s Gold Loaf, and it consists of a hollowed out loaf of Italian bread, jammed with a pound of bacon and two entire jars of peanut butter and jam.
And here’s where the proof of his love came in. Elvis heard about this meal when he was hanging out with some friends in his home in Graceland, Tennessee. Since this sandwich was only available from a restaurant in Denver, Colorado, Elvis and his friends flew there in Elvis’s private jet at 1am in the morning. Arriving at the hangar, they were greeted by the owner of the restaurant, who was carrying 22 sandwiches. Elvis and his friends ate them and then flew back to Graceland. I’m almost shedding a tear or two: that is a man committed to bacon.
