With summer here, I’m dying to get out and fire up my grill. I love the taste of meat, but I love it even more when the meat has been slightly set on fire from flaming charcoal briquettes. As well, we should always remember the many positive side effects of BBQing.
The BBQ gets you out of the house and into the sunshine, and it’s pretty much the only cooking method you are encouraged to do with a beer in your hand. Most of all, grilling gives me the excuse to pair two types of meat together: bacon with whatever else I’m cooking. You aren’t normally allowed to do that. But outside, ALL OF THE RULES GO OUT THE WINDOW. So, to celebrate the start of the grilling season and the warm bliss of biting into bacony, grilled goodness, I’ve gathered together the best bacon burger and hot dog recipes. Peanut Butter Bacon Burger
It is becoming increasingly clear to me that peanut butter and bacon must be having some sort of illicit love affair that none of us are supposed to know about. I mean, peanut butter and bacon? Who’d have thought they should be together? But recipe after recipe, bacon and peanut butter keep coming up as delicious companion toppings. The creator of this recipe also suggests adding mayo. Mayo! When are they going to finally give a Nobel out for Best Burger Topping?
Blue-Cheese Stuffed Bacon Burger
I’m hoping that at my funeral, they will serve a blue-cheese stuffed bacon burger. If they do, I know for sure that people will a) come and b) cry. But they will be crying hot tears of happiness and joy at the combination of beef, bacon and blue-cheese. Maybe add some peanut butter to it? I may be dead at this point, but I still want people to be happy.
Double Bacon Beer-Braised Cheeseburgers
The ever-reliable Rachel Ray offers this treat for us. Basically, you cook the burgers in any way you normally would; however, just before they are done you marinate them a little bit in some stout beer. I recommend pouring some beer from the bottle of stout and saying, “One for you!” Then, turn the beer to your glass, pour out a bit more, and say, “And one for you!” Repeat until all of the beer is used up.
Bacon/Parmesan Pork Burger
All of the above recipes are beef burger-based. But this one thinks outside of the box, and uses a pork patty instead of a beef patty. Actually, thinking about it, it seems so obvious. I wonder why I never thought of it before?
Bacon-Wrapped Burger/Hot Dogs
This list had to include bacon-wrapped something. So I recommend bacon-wrapping everything. Just remember that bacon-wrapping and BBQ-ing can be very flammable. So if you are going to do it, maybe you should George Foreman your hot dogs/burgers, as these lovely folks do. Of course, once you’ve done that, you can pretty much put any condiment you want on your burger or hot dog.
