Who ever heard of a bacon scandal? Everybody loves bacon, and generally the only thing scandalous about it is how delicious it is. Well, hold on to your hats, bacon lovers, because bacon has been making headlines all over the world (as usual). Some of the goings-on in the world of bacon are pretty serious news items, and even pretty gossip worthy.
For this edition of Bacon Love Friday, we’re going o talk about some of the hottest headlines sweeping today’s major news outlets.
Bacon and Art
Francis Bacon (the 20th century artist, not to be confused with Francis Bacon the 16th Century philosopher, statesman and author) is making headlines in the art world, as one of his portraits is going up for sale. Bacon the latter is renowned for his use of striking colours; the piece up for sale is the “Portrait of Henrietta Moraes,” which makes use of a vivid purple background, and it is being auctioned through Christie’s of London. The sale is expected to be significant; quipped Brett Gorvy, one of Christie’s art department chairmen: ““We’ve seen extraordinary prices paid for Bacons in London in recent years.”
Crimes of Bacon
Defiling the good name of bacon is not something we come across often, but this case has been making headlines. Admitted gangster, Jarrod Bacon’s four-month high-profile trial just concluded. Bacon was caught in a police sting invectigation in Vancouver, BC, and is charged with trafficking and conspiracy. This case has captured the media’s attention and shed a great deal of light on organized crime operating in Vancouver. It’s a case we wish the name bacon wasn’t associated with!
There’s another new bacon fest in town! Celebrations dedicated to bacon seem to be cropping up all over the place, and the newest bacon fest hails from Sacramento, California. This bacchanal devoted to all things pork is a three-day affair, running from January 20th to January 22nd at several locations in the city. Participants can eat all the bacon their hearts desire and watch a celebrity chef bacon cook-off for only $20!
Better Know Your Bacon
Speaking of bacon festivals, Seth Zurer, the pioneering founder behind Baconfest Chicago, just did this informative and bacon-filled interview with Chicago Now. Zurer talks about his own bacon preferences and foibles, and also about giving back to the community by partnering with the Greater Chicago Food Depository. It is great to see people doing good in the same of bacon!
Bacon and Sports
If you’re a fan of tennis, there is a new game in town, one that reportedly is an intense as singles but with the camaraderie of doubles. The game has been dubbed “Canadian Bacon” and it might just be a way for tennis trios to properly compete!
