So, the other day I made some wonderful bacon butter recipe. If you haven’t seen the recipe yet, I recommend you go and check it out now. One of the by-products of making butter, is that you get buttermilk. Not only do you get the most flavourful butter of all time, but you get the most flavorful buttermilk, too! AND it will be bacon flavoured!
You can do remarkable things with this buttermilk – like pancakes, waffles, crepes, biscuits – but what I decided to do was make a nice and creamy coleslaw! Usually, I’d cut and slice all the veggies myself, but I was lazy (bought the pre-cut stuff! Shhhh), so this became the quickest homemade coleslaw of all time.
Ingredients
6 strips Maple Leaf Bacon
1 package Precut Coleslaw mix (Cabbage, carrots, etc)
¼ cup Bacon Buttermilk (or regular buttermilk)
2 tbsp Granulated Sugar
1 tbsp Dijon Mustard
2 tbsp Hellmann’s Mayo
2 tbsp Sour Cream
3 tbsp Apple Cider Vinegar
Salt and Pepper
Directions
1. Grab that bacon, cut it up and give it a good frying. Save it for later.
2. In the meantime, mix all of your dressing together – that’s the buttermilk through the cider vinegar and salt and pepper.
3. Grab your slaw mix and crispy bacon and toss it in a bowl. Pour your dressing over and mix it around
4. Let the mixed slaw sit for at least an hour before you serve it. This will let the dressing get right into the cabbage and soften everything up. Serve it alongside wonderful homemade bacon-burgers… or any barbecue that you’re feeling that day!
