Everyone loves the smell of bacon. We’ve already talked about how this love has encouraged people to develop bacon candles, bacon-scented air canisters and all of the other wacky bacon-scented products. But as if these bacon-scented coming out the yin yang hadn’t filled our needs for bacon-scented products, along comes a new one: bacon cologne. It’s called bacon (I’m not going to try to do the accent over the “o”), and it’s by a company called Farginnay (that’s right – Farginnay). It’s Friday, so it’s our time for our weekly round-up of everything that is great and wonderful about bacon on the web. Here follows our list of what rocked our bacon world this week.

1. Mini Bacon Burgers

OMG. I did not know that these were a thing. Tiny, adorable burgers, topped with cheese and bacon? ME WANT EAT GOBBLE GOBBLE. Of course, these babies’d be snarfed up in like three secs – I could just slide the whole plate into my mouth. So if anyone decides to make them, they should aim for about five hundred. Anything less would be criminal.

2. Bringing Home the Bacon Brings Home the Bacon

Since I do spend most of my time thinking about how I’m going to turn my paycheques into bacon, this does sorta make you think. Maybe it’s time to drop the middle man. Yeah, that’s right: maybe we should cut out money and just replace it all with bacon. It’s going to end up as bacon anyhow.

3. Monkeys Eating Bacon

I think bacon is a sign of intelligence, so I guess this website is arguing for the brainiac status of our chimp cuzzes. Otherwise, I have no real idea why it exists. Is monkeys eating bacon the new hot website? We’ll keep you posted about its potential popularity. DEVELOPING…

4. Pizza Bacon Cakes

These look like pizza pies, but they are actually cakes made to look like pizzas. I don’t know what the “dough” is (it looks like a pound cake type deal?), but the “sauce” is apparently Cointreau and strawberry jam. And that’s white chocolate shavings. But – wait for it – the coup de grace? That would be actual candied bacon sprinkled on top. These suckers are for a competition. No need to tally the votes – this entry has WIN written all over it.

5. Tactical Bacon

Yah, yah, we’ve seen this before. But whenever I see it, I have to ask: how can this possibly be any good? What self-respecting bacon lover would even consider something like this? I’m guessing the idea is that you keep it for those times when you can’t make fresh bacon. But those times you can’t make fresh bacon ARE PROBABLY THE TIMES WHEN LIFE ISN’T WORTH LIVING. And like, come on. What do you need to cook bacon? Like a flame and some bacon? Stop making excuses and make me some delicious, fresh bacon.

6. Peanut Butter Cup Ice Cream with Bacon Sprinkles

The only real response to this is OM NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM. And then stopping for breath before OMMMing some more. Also, apparently the person who made this is eating it for Lent? Why did no one tell me that Lent was so awesome?

7. My Bacon Party

In just two short weeks, we Canadians are going to be voting for our new members of Parliament. And as great as that is, for years we’ve been denied a bacon candidate to call our own. Until now. On Twitter, a new party has proclaimed itself: My Bacon Party of Canada. It’s not much more than a Twitter account with an image of a Canadian flag made out of bacon. But that’s all I need to hear. I know who I’m going to vote for on May 2nd!

Thanks to Andrew Back Bacon, I now know that April is BLT-Sandwich Month. Who knew?

I’ve already made a fantastic BLT sandwich for you guys, but I needed to do something different. Yes, I could have done a variation on the sandwich. Yes, I could have maybe changed the bread or some of the toppings. But I wanted to something completely different.

What if the sandwich wasn’t a sandwich at all?

What if the sandwich was something that went along with a sandwich?

What if the sandwich was a soup?

In this way, if you were at a restaurant with a soup and sandwich special, you could order the BLT with the BLT. Wouldn’t that be fantastic?

Inspired by the success of the Ultimate Bacon Cookie, and the recent article by Andrew Back Bacon listing the BEST bacon cookie recipes he could find. Hey, Andrew! You forgot one! These!

Well… Technically you didn’t forget them – you didn’t even know about them because I hadn’t even made them yet. They only existed in my mind. They were a delicious thought that I had to bring into the physical realm, no matter how real and delicious the thought was. [Editors Note: Should I be concerned??]

I got inspiration for these cookies from a very good friend of mine. She was walking through one of the local city markets this weekend and decided to send me a message, knowing I was looking for inspiration for another cookie recipe, telling me about one the best butterscotch cookies she’s had. Bacon grease is a wonderful thing. We’ve already explored some of the many ways you can use bacon grease, including using it in baking or turning it into bacon candles. So we should keep these great things in mind when we hear something like this. According to several news reports, bacon grease has been accused of clogging some sanitation pipes in Halifax. Yeah, I’m totally okay with this. This is like super-duper okay. It’s like the most okay thing I’ve seen in a long time. I can imagine it being slightly more okay with some cheese and sour cream. And then maybe some more bacon. Yeah, that’s how it’ll get to be even more okay.

Sometimes, we want to take our love of bacon to a more sophistimacated level. For times like that, I think its best that we use the proper dishware. When I did that post on bacon cookies, I should probably have mentioned that bacon in brownie form is of equal or greater awesomeness. Sometimes, when I see bacon brownies, I think about smearing them all over my face. TMI? Dudes, that’s what the Republic of Bacon is for: offering us a safe space to let our crazy love of bacon all hang out. So yeah. Bacon brownies? All over my face.

I’m not a very political fellow – at least when it comes to traditional politics (I’m very wrapped up in the internal politics of the Republic of Bacon). But if every traditional politician started his or her speeches with the words, “I love bacon,” I’d probably pay more attention to whatever it is that came after it.

7. Police Solve the Case of the Missing Bacon

I have a feeling that this is the cause of most missing bacon in the world. Thankfully for our police departments, the rest of us just go out and buy some more, rather than phone the police.

Let’s make it hot. The Bacon. Let’s do it – make it spicy, I mean. Need I say more? Wait, I do. I love Jalapeno Poppers Recipes… with bacon!

… Well, I’ll say a couple more things. I’m doing these jalapeno poppers a little bit different than you would see at your local pub. I got the idea from a friend of mine whose mother makes these all the time. Instead of breading and deep frying the whole thing, we’re going to use the bacon as a pseudo-breading and bake them instead. This is a stupidly easy recipe – great for appetizers at a party.

Occasionally, we run across a bacon-related invention that is both mindblowing and strangely mouthwatering. Today is one of those days. I’ve seen a lot of things in my days of posting about bacon for the Republic of Bacon, but this takes the cake – er, rasher. Some folks have decided that pies are not delicious enough. These insane, genius people have decided that pies need something else to take them to a hyper-dimension of awesomeness and deliciousity. And that thing is, of course, bacon. Now, just hold on a second. Before you turn your nose up at me, let me explain myself here.

Again, yes, I know I’ve gone a little crazy. This goes without saying. But have you ever had REAL French Vanilla Ice Cream? Did you lick the bowl? I thought so. Guess what’s in there… Yep, Eggs.

French Vanilla Ice Cream is given its name because it’s made from a custard base called Crème Anglaise – Kind of the same thing we used for our Crème Brulée. So I figured, if there are eggs in that stuff, it will probably go with bacon. Was I right? Absolutely.

We’re adding caramelized bacon again in this dish. Every time I use this stuff, the final product is stupidly delicious. I seriously think I literally get a bit dumber when I eat caramelized bacon because it’s so damn good and it’s all I can think about for about a week and a half.

But, back to the ice cream. If you have an ice cream maker, do yourself and everyone you love a favour and make this stuff. I’m not kidding when I say it will change your life. Hopefully it won’t drop your IQ for a week like it does to me.
